Full Day Porgy Trip: Porgy fishing was very good today. Quality over quantity. There were many large fish, as well as plenty of sea bass and bluefish. Every angler caught their limit, filling their buckets. The pool fish was around 4.5 lbs
Offshore Noreast.com Charter
Captain Carl reports that fishing was once again phenomenal on this offshore trip! After a banner Abyss trip, all the noreast.com anglers were fired up to get out to the deep. We left at 1pm, stopped at the lighthouse, caught some bluefish for fresh skip baits and then headed out! We arrived at 8.00am and our first drift produced 6 tiles over 30lbs! Also, Joe Benze hooked into a bluefin tuna and after a bit of struggling the fish came over the rail and into the boat. It was about 125 pounds!! After that, the drift and current changed enought to shut down the bite at that spot, so Captain Steve moved to another location and the rest of the day saw steady action of tiles, hake, cusk, cod and pollack.
Day 2 was in a different zone again and it was lock and load! Every cooler on the boat filled up FAST! Lots of wreckfish, barrelfish, big tiles, and everything else was flying into the boat! It was absolute mayhem. Every cooler, tote, basket and everything else that could be found was stuffed full! The crew started fileting fish early in the day and cut fish right up until midnight! Everyone was ready to go home, however, we stayed out to check out a few more inshore spots on the way home. "Tilefish Teddy" took the tile pool with his 50.5lb Monster! Ryan Hickey took the wreckfish pool with a 24.5 pounder, and Mark Kaminski took the edible pool with a 22.4lb Barrelfish. A special thanks goes out to Mark Kaminski again for putting this trip together. Everyone had a great time and Captain Steven Sr., Steven Jr., Carl, Anthony, Tyler and Kobi look forward to seeing everyone again on a future trip!
Sunday June 28 2009
Half Day Fishing AM- Fishing was pretty good this morning aboard the Viking Stariper. Especially for 10 year old Ivana Jadrijev from Ridgefield NJ. She caught a monster porgy weighing in at 4.1lbs- almost as big as her. Good job Ivana!
Half Day Fishing Pm- We did not sail this afternoon.
Saturday June 27 2009
Night Striped Bass- Night Bass fishing was a pick all night on Saturday. Robert Wallace of East Minion NY won the first place pool with a 26.2lbs striper and Guillermo Vargas had a 22.9 pounder for second place. Don't forget- starting next week we will begin our regular Night Striper schedule. Sailing Thursday through Sat. at 7pm. We also have a special full moon trip coming up on July 7.
2009 Abyss Report- The Viking Abyss Trip of 2009 is another one to remember! We stopped on the way out off the lighthouse and jigged up some bluefish for fresh strips, as well as some scup. After getting enough we were bound for the Abyss. We started fishing at 9am Wed morning and had lots of action with tiles, cod, cusk, hake and pollack. After filling up with lots of meat, Captain Steven decided to search for some new grounds and he found "Jurassic Park"! Drift after drift produced nothing but huge tilefish. The 20 pounders were small compared to the rest. 30lbs, 40lbs, and some over 50lbs were all over the place- including Dr. Brian's 53.8 pounder! This unbelievable fishing lasted right up until dark, and with all the monster tilefish overflowing from coolers it was time to call it a day. On a side note, on the way to the Jurassic Park grounds some guys threw in some trolling lures and 2 nice yellowfin tuna were caught! Day 2 we looked even further and we caught some tiles in the morning but with no wind and no tide fishing wasn't too great, so it was back to Jurassic Park. Capt Steven told everyone that if they wanted to go back, everyone had to use a 1 hook rig with heavy leader to avoid any break offs. Everyone agreed and again it was an absolute insanity, with monster tiles all over the boat. More 30's, more 40's and more over 50lbs fish. On the way there we trolled up 3 more yellowfin tuna once again. With all the huge fish aboard the 8 tons of ice we had with us started melting fast. We fished until dark and they were still biting! That night we steamed to another new area and after looking around and finding it we made a drift and every single rod doubled over. More big tiles, cod, huge pollack, hake, cusk, barrel fish, and northern brown grouper made for and incredible mix. The entire day was non-stop- absolute mayhem! The guys that put double hook rigs back on came up with double headers. Every hook that went down came up with a fish. It could not have been any better! Enough was enough. Full coolers of fillets, tired fishermen, low ice... it was time to call it a trip. Everyone aboard was ready to go. 24 different species of fish were caught. Over 300 tiles (with about 75 of them weighing in over 35lbs), over 150 brown grouper, and uncountable amounts of everything else. It was incredible to say the least. George Longschultz of Brooklyn NY took the tilefish pool with a 51.7 pounder (Dr. Brian's 53.8lbs tile wasn't in the pool) George also had a 47lbs tile. Second place in the tile pool was actually a tie between Fred Mayer from North Valley NY and Peter Chiu of Jamaica NY with a twin 50.2 pounders. Peter Chiu also took the first place in the edible pool with a 45lbs yellowfin tuna. Joe Klun of Suffern NY took second in the edible category with a 40lbs yellowfin. If we keep writing about remarkable catches- such as Umar Butt's 26lbs brown grouper- we might run out of room on our website. We are heading right back out with our Noreast. com charter and we'll report again when we return. A big Thank You to everyone on the trip.
Half Day Fishing Pm- Captain Joe reports that porgy fishing aboard the Viking Stariper this afternoon was slow but decent. The winner of the pool was Joe Ferguson from Hicksville New York who had a 2.75lb porgy!
Half Day Fishing Am- Fishing was tough on the half day porgy and seabass trip today. The winner of the pool was James Koeppel from Lindenhurst New York who had a 2.5lb porgy!

Half Day Am and Pm
The Viking Stariper was chartered on Saturday by a school from the Bronx NY who had a great day on the water. Captain Carl took them in search of Porgies and Sea Bass and had some good results. Everyone caught some nice fish but decided not to have a pool.
Saturday June 13 2009
Night Striped Bass - Fishing on the Night Striped Bass boat was fantastic! The majority of the fish were between 25-35 lbs. First place in the pool went to Michael Nelson from Jamaica NY with a 40.8 lb bass! All in all it was a great night with many fish. We will be fishing next Saturday at 7:00 pm. By the end of the trip, however, the tide was back and fishing was once again good. Pete Ferguson and son had their limit of fish, including a 4.2lb, 5.7lb, 6.9lb and 7.8lb fish. Umar Butt also caught a nice 6.10lb keeper fluke.

Half Day Pm- Captain Joe took the afternoon trip out today and reports that despite great conditions the fish did not really bite. They ended the day with about a half dozen keepers and even a Striped Bass. This afternoons pool went to Pete Ferguson of Freeport NY who caught a 4.7lb Fluke.
Saturday June 6 2009
Half Day Am- Captain Joey D reports a pretty tough morning of Fluke Fishing not helped by the difficult weather. However they did manage to secure some nice size keeper Fluke. This mornings pool was won by Byron Powell of Malaga NJ with a 7.79lb Fluke.
Half Day Pm- An improvement in fishing and in weather was seen on this afternoons trip. The Fluke coming over the rails are still a great doormat size. Michael Nelson of Queens NY caught himself a whopper 10.3lb Fluke to win this afternoons pool. Second place in the pool went to Ron Rossi of Brooklyn NY who landed an impressive 9.4 pounder. Nice job guys!!! We are sailing tomorrow at 8am and again in the afternoon at 1pm. Hope to see you onboard soon!!!
Night Striped Bass- Tonights Striped Bass trip which was our first one of 2009 was a success. We had good action on both Bass and Blues for the first half of the trip. Then the tide slacked up and the action slowed down somewhat. Michael Nelson was tonights pool winner with a 16 pounder. Joe Ferguson was high hook limiting out with Striped Bass. Joes biggest fish was 26lbs but bad luck for him he was not in the pool!!! We are sailing tonight again tonight and with the full moon are expecting good results.
Saturday May 30 2009
Half Day- Captain Joe said that fishing was tough for both trips. The weather was not that cooperative and the wind slowed things down. Billy Schulken of Valley Stream New York took the pool on the morning trip with a 5 pounder. The afternoon remained slow with the weather not helping.
Monday May 25 2009
Half Day- Captain Joe reports that Fluke fishing remained as good today as we have seen over the weekend. We saw many fish come over the rails in the 3 to 5lb range and even landed about 6 Fluke in the 6 to 9 pound size range. Todays pool winner was Matt Winakor of East Rockaway NY.
Sunday May 24 2009 Monday May 25 2009
Half Day Am- The bite was on from the first drop with many fares limiting out on beautiful Fluke reports Captain Anthony. Steve "BentoBox" took the pool with a 6lber for the second day in a row. Dawn "Fergi" Ferguson took second place with a fish weighing in just ounces less. Our own Steven Sloane Martinez caught nothing but shorts but had a beauty which he chose to gaff instead of using the net.... once again poor choice Steve.
Half Day Pm- Wind against tide made for a tough start to the afternoon but as the drift picked up so did the fishing. Our very own Bill Swill after missing the gaff shot on Steves fish this morning was rewarded with a 9lb slob. It was Terri "mudslide" Coleman nailed the pool with a 7lb doormat. Bryan Dacewicz from Fairfield CT took second place. Christine "The Dazzler" Dassler limited out with a 5lb Whistle fish. Captain Anthony said get in on the fantastic Fluke fishing while the big boys are in Montauk!!!!
Saturday May 23 2009
Half day - Fluke fishing is off to a good start this summer! The fishing was very good considering the windy conditions. Steve Bento won the pool and is currently in the lead of the Viking Fleet 2009 $10,000 Fluke Derby. Terri Coleman limited out with two beautiful fish. Our very own Kobi also caught a 6 pounder.
Friday May 8 2009- 2 Day Tile and Wreck Trip
Well the 10am forecast looked like we could get both days in and the trip was a go. However when the 4pm forecast came in I was like "oh -hit!!!". Sundays forecast was for gale warnings so we all got together in the cabin and had a pow wow. We decided to make it a 1 day trip so at 7.30 we headed off. We started at the grounds where we had left the tiles biting two weeks prior and the weather was perfect. The first drop was just like the one we left 2 weeks ago with Tile, Cod, Pollack and Hake coming over the rails. Knowing that the bad weather was coming everyone worked extreemly hard keeping tangles to a minimum and getting 2-3 drops per drift each producing Tile, big Tile and in fact many double headers. Many of the Tiles coming in were weighing in between 12 and 20 lbs. A very impressive double header was caught by Jim Parente who landed a 29 and a 27 pounder taking first and second place in the Tile pool. Not bad for one drop Jim!!! Jim also had 3 other double headers, a 12 and 15 pounder, a 15 and 24 pounder and a 12 and 20 pounder as well as 10 addtional Tile, 2 Cod, 2 Pollack and 2 Cusk. For 6 Hours of fishing we had approx 50 fish between 15 and 29lbs, 100 between 8 and 15lbs, a bunch of Cod, Pollack, Cusk and Hake. By 2.30pm the sw wind started to come on and as we had plenty of fish we headed for home.
Monday May 4-2 Day Cod fishing trip
The Viking Starship just returned from a 2 Day trip last night. The weather forecast for Georges Bank was unfishable for Saturday so we ended up going to Stellwagen Bank and we would be able to fish in good conditions. We arrived at the fishing grounds at sunrise Saturday and immediately began catching cod with a pretty good keeper to short ratio. Jigs were the ticket as all the codfish were stuffed with sand eels. After picking away for a couple of hours the tide changed and fishing slowed down. We went looking for some haddock and were able to pick away at them for the rest of the day, with some cod and wolfish in the mix. One particularly angry wolfish attacked Mate Tyler Weiss but Tyler was able to escape by dancing around on one foot and screaming like a girl. Good Job Tyler! We anchored up for the night and some anglers stayed up and put a few more cod and haddock in their coolers. Day 2 we saw similar results, with great codfishing in the morning on jigs with haddock mixed in, as well as wolfish. Matthew McDermott caught 2 wolfs himself. We fished right up until noon, and then had to call it a trip. Michael Becker of Rockaway Beach NY took the cod pool with a 24 pounder caught the second day. Greg DeFelice of Egg Harbor Township NJ took the haddock pool with a 12 pounder. Bill Lellis took the largest edible pool with a 20lbs wolfish. Capt. Steven Sr, Capt. Carl, Capt. Anthony, and "Wolfish" Tyler would like to thank everyone for a great and fun trip!
April 24 2009- 2 Day Limited Tile and Wreck Trip
Captain Steven Sr reports that on day 1 of this trip conditions were not perfect but they were doable and we had some sucess. On the first drift we had Tile, Pollack, Cod, Sea Bass and Hake. After two hours we moved on as the wind and tides began to pick up. We then picked fish on each drift but the tangles were rough. Towards the end of the day things straigthened out and we had good Tile and Pollack fishing on the last couple of drifts of the day. By the end of day 1 we had 80 Tile up to 34lbs, 75 Cod to 20lbs, 100 Hake to 12lbs, 25 Pollack to 18lbs, some Sea Bass and one 15lb Monkfish. A very nice mix of fish indeed. At the beginning of day 2 we started fishing on Wrecks looking for Cod and we did well. On Wreck 1 we landed 100 Cod, Wreck 2 produced 3 so we moved along to Wreck 3 were we easily landed 100 more Cod up to 27lbs. On Wreck 4 we ended up with about 50 Cod so all Wrecks bar one had a really good shot of Cod on them. We really only fished about an hour on each of the good Wrecks as we needed to work our way west and the clock was ticking!! We put a nice mess of fish together for the 30 guys who were there to enjoy good fishing and good company. The crew and I would like to thank everyone for joining us and making this one to remember!!! The Tile pool was won by John Tzannes of NYC with a 34lb Tile and the Cod pool went to Joseph Lam of Edison NJ who landed a 27 pounder.
April 17 2009- Freeport Tuna Club Annual Charter Captain Steven Sr. just returned from the annual Freeport Tuna Club Charter and reports that while the weather was absolutely ideal, the fish were not as cooperative and it took some effort to put a catch together. On the first day we traveled north of Stellwagen looking for Cod. Our first few drops produced some small fish with a few keepers in the mix so Captain Steven tried the deeper water and was rewarded with a steady pick of jumbo Haddock and cod to 15lbs in the mix and a beauty 18lb Wolffish caught by Joe who took the largest edible pool. Captain Steven headed toward Stellwagen on day 2 where we had a very good shot of pure cod on the first drift, but as the sun came up so did the northeast wind and made drifting impossible. We anchored up and ended the day with some decent flurries of haddock and cod. Partners Little Chris Bellanzoni and Timmy Burke took the cod pool. Honorable mentions go to Partners Harry Weinblatt, Michael Edelman and Eugene who took home the biggest cooler pool. Partners Bobby Hindenlang and Luke took the most fish caught on green teasers pool. Partners Barry and Jay took home the first to arrive at the boat and pour a cocktail pool and no Barry you still can't have Joe's Wolffish head!....Partners Brian Doherty and Joe Mangiapanello, well they just made for cute partners!!!As always the Freeport Tuna Club produced a bountiful smorgasbord of Italian delicacies, on the ride home which had mate Eric Hannan saying "Dude you gotta tell me where you got those Hot Peppa's!!" Captain Steven Sr, Captain Anthony, Captain Dave and First Mate Eric all would like to thank our friends at the FTC for another fantastic trip of good fishing, good eating and good friends! He would also like to remind everyone that the Viking Superstar is sailing daily from Quincy MA to Stellwagen Banks for Cod. There are a limited number of spots available on the offshore trip departing from Montauk on Friday April 24 to Sunday April 26. On this trip we will be targetting Tile fish as well as fishing various wrecks looking for Cod. Captain Steven Sr. is busy in his kitchen tonight cooking a delicious Haddock dinner for his family and friends so we are all glad that the Haddock bite was on this past weekend!!!

March 21 2009 - 60- 80 Mile Wreck Trip Saturday
Captain Steven Sr reports that this weekends trip went okay considering the wind did not drop out till 3.30pm. Up until then conditions were against us but an enormous effort was put in by everyone and we put a catch together. We put Sea Bass, Wreckfish, Hake, Pollack and even a few Tilefish on the boat. All of the Wreckfish were a very good size from 15 to 24lbs. The first wreck produced the sea bass, as well as a lot of big hake and some pollack. The rest of the day was deeper where we caught all the wreckfish and tilefish. Rich Flood and Dali Bormedic split the Tilefish pool with a 25 pound tile. Rich and his 9 year old son Tyler (who caught his first wreckfish ever) had 4 wreckfish, some hake, seabass and a unique red fish that we have not seen before. Craig Lindahl took the sea bass pool with a 5 pounder. Angelo Origas took the pollack pool with a 10 pounder. Billy Modica took the wreckfish pool with a 24 pounder!! They moved around quite a bit today hoping to find some new piles of Cod but it was hit and miss with some spots yielding some good results and some not so much. 4pm update- On the last wreck of the day they yielded some good results landing some Ling and some nice sized Cod. Captain Steven and Captain Carl made the trip out today as our many many anglers with reservations showed up and were enthusiastic about giving it a go. Captain Steven reports that the diamond jigs and jelly worms were the top producers again today. Both boats headed to the East and stayed out late to make the best of the improvement in the weather. We are heading into some nice weather here at the start of the week so make sure you make reservations for our upcoming trips. The morning bite was a little slow but as the day heated up so did the ACTION! Local Cod on the Viking Superstar: Fishing was a little slower than the cod slaughter we have been experiencing the last few days! (We really have been spoiled so far this year). Never the less Captain Steven reports a good day of fishing. The morning bite was a little slow but as the day heated up so did the ACTION! Lewis D'Angelo of Lawrence NY took second place in the pool with a 20 pound cod and Greg Felline of Bayonne NJ had a 25 pounder caught on the jig. Christine Dassler and Teri Coleman made their first cod trip as did Frank Graci. Boy, did they have a GREAT DAY! Viking regular Arden nailed himself 20 cod on jigs and jelly worms. Over on the Viking Starship we had Captain Carl report a similar day of fishing alongside Captain Steven. A slow start still produced plentiful coolers for satisfied anglers. Feb 6 2009 Friday
Captain Steven just hit the dock with a bunch of our fisherman friends from Captree. The gang headed out for a fantastic day on the water. Captain Paul G (yes the old man!) happened to be in town on business and jumped on with the guys. Well, Captain Paul could not believe his eyes!!. In all his days fishing in Montauk (since 1951) he has NEVER seen the likes of this cod fishing. Double headers were coming over the rail EVERY MINUTE. What an AWESOME day. Cod were ranging in size from 4-8 pounds with some larger cod in the 10-12 pound range. The pool fish was about 20 pounds. Capt Steven started the fishing about 3:15am and by 8:15am the guys were asking to return to the dock as their arms were tired! Captain Carl reports that the morning part of his fishing trip was phenomenal on the Viking Starship! but the fishing slowed off a little in the afternoon. By the end of the day all the people left with plenty of fish though. The pool on the Viking Starship was a nice heavy 22 pound cod caught by Tim Kolm of Carl Place, second place in the pool went to Richard Kwon of New Jersey with an 18 pounder. Captain Carl hit the dock early with another boat load of exhausted anglers... WOW !

Feb 2 2009 Monday
Another phenomenal day was had local cod fishing! Not only was fishing again fantastic, but the weather was beautiful as well. We started the day fishing where we left them the previous day and we had a steady pick of cod for a couple hours. Bait was working best here. Then around 9 am things slowed right down so we decided to look around at some other spots. We made a drift at the next spot and the guys jigging in the bow were all hooked up! Everyone on board then switched to jigs and we made another drift and EVERYONE on board was hooked up! Double headers were flying over the rails. Capt. Carl and mates Eric Bonzani and Tyler Weiss could not put down the gaffs! By this point some guys were in T-shirts and reeling in double headers! We had very solid fishing for a couple more hours here until everyone had enough... some were even catching and releasing! Winning the pool was Ross Koppel from Kings Park, NY with a 22 pound cod! Capt. Carl also wants to note that there was a ton of life out there, with some guys snagging herring and mackeral with their jigs. Also, we saw some whales and dolphin as well! Things look good for Thursdays trip, so make your reservations now!
Feb 1 2009 Sunday
It was like Georges banks moved to Block Island!!! We had an absolutely phenomenal day of Cod fishing today. What a way to start the 2009 Local Cod season!! Joe Andreoli of Wycoff NJ was second place winner with a 15 pounder. An honorable mention goes to Chris Viggiano who fished all day at the bow in 8 to 12 ft Seas and left with a lot of cod, winning him high hook honor and also labelling him a super star by the crew for braving the sea conditions and the lip service he was getting from Fred Motor Shay. Actually Fred was almost high hook but was beat out in the end by Chris. Mate Steve Martinez and Captain Anthony were on deck today and began fileting at 9am. By 10am they finished up a full tote of fish caught by Gil Parker and Paulie Walnuts. By 1pm Gil and Paulie filled another tote. Also a big congrats to Hank Lackner who landed a lot of keeper Cod. There were so many fish that even old man Hank Lackner helped pitch in with the cutting thanks Hank!! And finally all of us here at the Viking Fleet would like to send our congrats to John Tzanes. John just became a first time Dad when his little girl was born 12 days ago and still had the strength to land many keepers. All the best to John and family. By days end we had a ton of Cod for the 80 anglers on todays sold out trip. Captain Steven Sr reports that he can honestly say that this was the best day of Cod fishing he has ever seen in 25 plus years of Cod fishing.

2 Day Tuna Trip
Over the weekend we had two tuna trips. Friday and Saturday's trip was decent. During the day on Fri we trolled around, but the tuna didn't want to bite. We trolled by a weedline and sae tons of mahi-mahis, so we made a drift and everyone caught a few. After, we went back on the troll and caught more big mahis. Settled in for the night early and started chumming. We got our first bite at 3am. The action went on until 6am, and we ended up with a good amount of albacore and a couple of yellowfins, the biggest of which weighed in at 80lbs. Sunday and Monday's trip was decent as well. We trolled all day Sunday, but no tuna bit. We did catch some nice mahis. After trolling around all day, we anchored up early and started chumming. At 9pm we had our first fish. An hour later we had our second. At around 3am things were really heating up, with a bunch of albacore coming in the boat. Around 5:30am the yellowfin started biting the jigs and baits. We boated a couple of them, all around 60-70lbs. and broke a few off. Ray Davis had the biggest tuna, a yellowfin at 75lbs. Mark Atlas had the second largest at 70lbs. Honorable mention goes to Steven Wollweber for his awesome mahi fishing, unbelievable! Our hats off to him! First place in the tuna pool goes to Ray Davis, second to Mark Atlas. The biggest fish other than tuna was landed by John byrnes- a 19.7lbs Golden Tile.
